This Agreement takes effect from the Start Date in your Membership Application, or the date you complete your induction, whichever is later. Quote the version above if you ever need to ask us which terms you agreed to.

Your membership

1. What this Agreement covers

1.1 This Agreement, together with the Fee Schedule (Schedule A) and the House & Safety Rules (Schedule B), sets out the terms of your MakerCraft membership at the lab.

1.2 Schedules A and B form part of this Agreement. Where they conflict with this Agreement, this Agreement prevails.

1.3 We may update Schedules A and B on 30 days’ notice by email. We will not change the core terms of this Agreement — the monthly fee, the cancellation terms, or the liability provisions — without your fresh acceptance.

1.4 Our Privacy Notice explains how we handle your personal data, including CCTV. It is not part of this Agreement.

1.5 Membership is open to individuals aged 18 and over.

2. What membership gives you

2.1 Membership is a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to enter and use the lab and its facilities during permitted hours, on these terms.

2.2 This is not a lease or tenancy. You do not get exclusive possession of any part of the lab, and nothing here creates a landlord–tenant relationship.

2.3 Your membership includes, to the extent your plan provides for it:

Access to the lab during the Access Hours for your plan (Schedule B)
Use of the shared workspace, benches, paint stations and hand tools
Member rates on fabrication and materials, where your plan includes them (Schedule A)
Inclusion in MakerCraft community activities

2.4 Membership does not include operating any machine. Machines are operated by Makerschool staff only — see clause 6. Membership buys you a place to work and access to fabrication as a service, not machine access.

2.5 Your membership also does not include: fabrication or materials, which are charged separately at Schedule A rates; any guarantee of turnaround time or that a particular machine will be available; private or exclusive storage beyond that stated in Schedule B; or instruction or tuition, except where expressly provided.

2.6 Membership is personal to you. You may not share, lend or transfer your access credentials, your membership, or your member rates to anyone else.

3. Plans, fees and payment

3.1 Membership runs in rolling 30-day periods from your Start Date, not calendar months, and renews automatically every 30 days until cancelled. If you join on the 12th, your periods run the 12th to the 11th, and every renewal falls 30 days after the last.

3.2 Your plan. The plan you have chosen and its fee are recorded in your Membership Application and set out in Schedule A. Your plan determines your Access Hours, what is included, and whether unstaffed access is available to you.

Plan
Fee per 30 days
Regular
$48
Resident
$198

3.3 Fees, member fabrication rates, the deposit if one applies, the pause administration fee, and the GST position are all set out in Schedule A.

3.4 How you pay. We invoice you at the start of each 30-day period through HitPay, our payment provider. The invoice is sent automatically to the email address on your Membership Application, and you may settle it by any payment method HitPay offers at the time — card, PayNow or otherwise. You may choose a different method each month.

3.5 What appears on your invoice. Your membership fee for the coming period; fabrication and material charges from the period just ended; amounts you owe for damage under clause 12, following the procedure in clause 12.4; and any other amount properly due under this Agreement. Anything other than the membership fee is itemised, and we will tell you about it before it appears.

3.6 We do not receive, hold or store your card details at any point. Payment is made to HitPay.

3.7 Fabrication and materials are billed in arrears on your next invoice, from our job records.

3.8 Invoices are due within 7 days. If an invoice is unpaid 7 days after its due date we may suspend your access until it is settled. If it is unpaid after 21 days we may end this Agreement and recover what is owed. Fees continue to accrue during a suspension for non-payment.

3.9 Queried invoices. If you think a line on your invoice is wrong, tell us before the due date and we will hold that line while we sort it out. The rest of the invoice remains payable.

3.10 It is your responsibility to keep your email address current, since that is where invoices are sent.

3.11 We may change fees on 30 days’ written notice. If you do not accept a change, you may cancel under clause 4 before it takes effect.

4. Cancellation and pausing

4.1 You may cancel at any time, by email to [email protected]. There is no notice period and no minimum term. Your membership ends at the end of the 30-day period you are currently in, and you keep access until then.

4.2 We do not refund part periods. If you cancel part-way through a 30-day period you are not entitled to a refund of the unused part. The exceptions are clauses 4.6 and 15.4.

4.3 You remain liable for fabrication and materials used before your membership ends, and for any amount owed under clause 12.

4.4 You may pause your membership once in any 12-month period, for between two weeks and one month, on two weeks’ notice, subject to the administration fee in Schedule A. Your access resumes on the date you return.

4.5 You must remove your property and return access credentials by your end date. Clause 11 applies to anything left behind.

4.6 If the lab is unavailable for more than 14 consecutive days for reasons within our control, we will credit or refund a pro-rata part of your fee for that period.

5. Safety and induction

5.1 You must complete our safety induction before using the lab. It covers the bench and paint areas, materials handling, ventilation, emergency procedures and the House & Safety Rules.

5.2 Inductions are valid for 12 months. After that you must complete a refresher.

5.3 You must at all times:

Follow the House & Safety Rules and any instruction from Makerschool staff
Wear the personal protective equipment specified for the activity
Use only materials approved for the area you are working in. Schedule B lists prohibited materials
Not bring in any material whose composition you cannot identify
Not use the lab while impaired by alcohol, drugs, or medication affecting your alertness or coordination
Report every incident, near miss, injury, fire, spill and equipment fault immediately, however minor, and including where you were alone
Not modify, bypass or disable any guard, interlock, extraction or safety device
Not switch on, adjust, load, unload or interfere with any machine (clause 6)

5.4 We may restrict or suspend your use of any part of the lab if we reasonably believe you are not working safely. This is a safety decision, not a disciplinary one, and does not entitle you to a refund.

5.5 Assumption of risk. You understand that a workshop involves inherent risks — cutting, burning, crushing, entanglement, fire, eye injury, respiratory irritation, chemical sensitisation — and that these cannot be eliminated. You confirm you take part voluntarily with that understanding. Nothing in this clause excludes or limits any liability we may have to you: see clause 13.

5.6 You confirm the health and allergy information in your Membership Application is accurate, and you will tell us if it changes in a way that affects your safe use of the lab. This matters more, not less, if you use the lab when no staff are present.

Machines, access, and working alone

6. Machines are operated by staff

6.1 Members do not operate the machines. The fabrication machines — 3D printers, the laser cutter, resin printers and wash/cure units, the vinyl cutter, the heat press and the A3+ printer — are operated exclusively by Makerschool staff. Schedule B lists them.

6.2 You must not switch on, adjust, load, unload, pause, restart or otherwise interfere with any machine, whether or not a job of yours is running on it.

6.3 What you may do on your own, during any Access Hours including when no staff are present: bench work, assembly, finishing, painting, soldering, and use of the shared hand tools. Hand tools are yours to use; the machines in clause 6.1 are not.

6.4 This is a safety decision and an operational one. Staff operation lets us sequence jobs, batch similar work, and keep a machine from being tied up for days by a single project.

6.5 Fabrication is a service. You submit a job; we run it. Rates are in Schedule A, and:

We will confirm the job and give you an estimate before starting anything chargeable
We sequence the queue at our discretion, batching similar work where it makes sense. Residents have priority
We do not guarantee turnaround times. Any timing we give you is an estimate, not a commitment, and clause 13 applies
We may decline a job — see clauses 14.6 and 16
You remain responsible for your own design and its manufacturability. We do not fix design flaws
If we think your design is likely to fail, we will tell you before we run it. You can revise it, or ask us to run it anyway — and if you ask us to proceed after we have flagged a concern, materials are chargeable whatever the outcome

6.6 When a job fails.

Where the cause is ours — power, adhesion, mechanical failure, or a staff slicing or setup error — we cover it and re-run the job at our cost
Where the cause is your design, materials remain chargeable, and we will tell you which flaw caused the failure
Where we flagged a concern under clause 6.5 and you asked us to proceed, materials are chargeable
We record the cause of every failed job at the time it fails

7. Access, hours and guests

7.1 Access Hours depend on your plan and are set out in Schedule B. They may change on 30 days’ notice.

7.2 Access credentials are issued to you personally. You must not share them, let anyone in behind you, or admit anyone else to the lab. Tell us immediately if a credential is lost or compromised.

7.3 Before we issue your credential:

We will ask to see a photo identity document, to confirm the full name on your membership is correct. We check the name and photograph against your application and hand the document straight back. We do not take, hold, copy, photograph, scan or transcribe anything from it, and we do not record any identification number. We record only that the check was done, the date, and by whom. If the name on your document differs from the one you gave us, we update your record to match the document
We will take your photograph for your member record, and will tell you when we do. It is used only to identify you as a member — for access control, and for matching a person to CCTV footage after an incident. It is not used in marketing, and it is deleted when your membership ends and any outstanding matter is closed

7.4 You may bring one guest per visit. Guests must sign in, accept our Visitor Terms, remain in the shared areas, and may not operate any machine. You are responsible for your guest’s conduct and for any loss or damage they cause. Guests are not permitted when the lab is unstaffed.

7.5 We may close the lab for maintenance, events, private hire or public holidays. We will give as much notice as we reasonably can. Short closures do not entitle you to a refund.

8. Using the lab when no staff are present

8.1 The lab is frequently unstaffed. You should assume that at most times no member of Makerschool staff will be present.

8.2 When no staff are present you may use the benches, the paint stations, the soldering irons and the hand tools. You may not use any machine, for any reason (clause 6.2). No job of yours will be running unattended, and none will be started while you are here alone.

8.3 When no staff are present you must:

Sign in on arrival and sign out on leaving, by the method set out in Schedule B
Keep your phone on you, charged and reachable — not in a bag or another room
Run extraction and ventilation whenever your work requires it
Know where the first aid kit, fire extinguisher, fire blanket, emergency exit and emergency contact list are before you start
Complete the shutdown checklist and secure the premises if you are last out

8.4 What you are accepting. You acknowledge that when the lab is unstaffed:

There may be no one present to help you if you are injured
CCTV recording is not live monitoring. Nobody is watching. Recording does not summon help, raise an alarm, or bring anyone to the lab
You are responsible for calling emergency services yourself if you need them

8.5 We may withdraw or vary unstaffed access — for you, or for all members — at any time and without notice, where we consider it necessary for safety or security.

Cameras, conduct and property

9. CCTV

9.1 The lab is recorded by CCTV 24 hours a day. Cameras record video only — no audio.

9.2 We use recordings for: security of the premises, equipment and members’ property; investigating accidents, near misses and equipment faults; investigating damage, loss or theft; checking machine use where a charge is queried; and confirming who was present when the lab was unstaffed.

9.3 Cameras cover the work areas, machines, entrances and storage. There are no cameras in the toilet or any changing or washing area.

9.4 Recordings are not watched live. We review footage after the fact, and only for a reason in clause 9.2.

9.5 Footage is kept for 30 days and then automatically overwritten, except where a clip is retained for a specific incident, claim, investigation or legal proceeding — and then only as long as that matter needs it.

9.6 Access to footage is limited to the Director and the Lab Director. We will not disclose it to anyone else except: to you, where it shows you; to the police, SCDF, our insurers or professional advisers where reasonably required; or where the law requires it.

9.7 We do not use CCTV footage in marketing or on social media. Marketing material is filmed separately, under clause 14.

9.8 You may ask to see footage you appear in. We will provide what we reasonably can, subject to the rights of others in the recording — which may mean obscuring them, or occasionally declining where that is not practical.

9.9 You must not install your own cameras in the lab, or photograph or film other members or their work without their agreement.

9.10 Notices are displayed at the entrance and inside the lab. Full detail is in our Privacy Notice.

10. Your conduct

10.1 MakerCraft is a shared space. You agree to treat other members, staff and guests with respect; to clean your workspace and return tools before leaving; not to harass, bully, threaten or discriminate against anyone; and not to use the lab for any unlawful purpose.

10.2 We take harassment seriously and will act on it. See clause 15.

10.3 The House & Safety Rules form part of this Agreement.

11. Storage and abandoned property

11.1 Storage is limited to the space allocated to you in Schedule B, at your own risk. Your property is not insured by us — bring nothing you cannot afford to lose, and consider your own insurance for valuable tools. This clause does not apply where loss results from our negligence: see clause 13.

11.2 You may not store flammable liquids beyond the quantity in Schedule B, compressed gases, food, or anything hazardous or perishable.

11.3 Anything left outside your allocated space, or left after your membership ends, is treated as abandoned after 30 days’ written notice to you, and we may dispose of it. We may recover reasonable disposal costs.

11.4 We may move or remove anything blocking access, creating a hazard, or breaching Schedule B — without notice where safety requires it.

Damage, theft and liability

12. Damage, loss and theft

12.1 Things break, and that is not automatically your problem. You are not liable for normal wear and tear, consumable parts reaching end of life, or failures not caused by your acts or omissions.

12.2 You are liable for the reasonable cost of repair or replacement where damage results from:

Touching, switching on, adjusting or otherwise interfering with a machine, contrary to clause 6.2
Supplying material for a job that is prohibited, contaminated, or not what you told us it was
Disregarding instructions, signage, the House & Safety Rules, or a safety requirement
Modifying, bypassing or disabling any guard, interlock or safety device
Other negligence on your part, or deliberate damage

12.3 You must report damage immediately — including damage you caused, and including when nobody saw. Reporting honestly is not a breach of this Agreement and will not on its own lead to termination. Failing to report is a separate and more serious breach, because an unreported fault is how the next member gets hurt.

12.4 How we bill it. Where you are liable under clause 12.2: we tell you in writing what was damaged, what happened, what it costs and why we consider you responsible, with the quote or invoice; you have 7 days to respond if you disagree; if you do not respond, or we cannot agree, the amount is added to your next invoice as a separate line; and for any amount over $500 we will speak with you first and may agree instalments.

12.5 If you query a damage line, clause 3.9 applies — we hold that line while we sort it out, and the rest of the invoice remains payable.

12.6 Failed jobs are dealt with in clause 6.6.

12.7 You must not remove anything from the lab that is not yours — equipment, tools, materials, consumables, or another member’s work or property — without our permission or the owner’s.

12.8 Taking consumables without logging and paying for them is theft, not a grey area. Schedule B sets out how consumables are logged.

12.9 Theft or unauthorised removal is grounds for immediate termination under clause 15.2. We report theft to the police as a matter of course, and will provide access logs, CCTV footage and contact details.

12.10 Between members. We are not responsible for theft of, or damage to, your property by another member or guest. If it happens we will review the footage and access logs, act on what we find, and provide what we can to the police, subject to clause 9.6.

12.11 Nothing in this clause limits our right to recover losses through the courts, or affects any criminal liability.

12.12 Where we require a deposit, we will tell you the amount in writing before it is charged. We may apply it against an unreturned or damaged access credential, unpaid fees or charges, or amounts owed under clause 12.2. Any balance is refunded within 14 days of your membership ending and your property being removed.

13. Liability

13.1 Nothing in this Agreement excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury resulting from our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

13.2 Subject to clause 13.1, and so far as is reasonable:

We are not liable for loss of or damage to your property, tools, materials or work in progress, however caused, except where caused by our negligence
We are not liable for loss of profit, business, opportunity, data or designs, or any indirect or consequential loss
We are not liable for the CCTV system failing to record, or a recording being unavailable, incomplete or unusable
We are not liable for delay in completing a fabrication job, or for any loss arising from a job taking longer than estimated
Our total liability in any 12-month period is limited to the total membership fees you paid us in that period

13.3 We do not warrant that equipment will be available, fit for any particular purpose you have in mind, or free from fault, and we are not responsible for the quality or outcome of anything you make.

13.4 You indemnify us against claims, losses and reasonable costs arising from your breach of this Agreement, your misuse of the lab, your infringement of another person’s rights, or the acts of your guests — except to the extent caused by our own negligence or breach.

13.5 You are responsible for your own personal accident and property insurance.

Your work, ending the membership, and selling

14. Intellectual property

14.1 You own what you make. You keep all intellectual property rights in the designs, files and objects you create. We claim nothing in them. Where our staff fabricated an item for you, that does not change who owns it — you commissioned the work and paid for it.

14.2 We own the intellectual property in our curriculum, course materials, templates, jigs, brand and documentation. You may use them at the lab but not copy, distribute or teach from them commercially without our written permission.

14.3 You warrant that you have the right to make, print, cut or reproduce anything you ask us to produce, and that doing so infringes nobody’s copyright, design right, trade mark, patent or licence terms. Many downloadable model licences permit personal printing but restrict printing for others or for sale. Checking the licence is your responsibility.

14.4 We may photograph or film activity, equipment and work in progress at the lab for our own promotional use. We will not use images in which you are personally identifiable unless you have given separate consent, which you may withdraw at any time by writing to us.

14.5 If we photograph an object you made, we may use that image to promote MakerCraft. You keep all rights in the object. Tell us if you would rather we did not, and we will not.

14.6 We may refuse to print, cut or produce anything where we have reasonable concerns about its legality or licensing.

15. Suspension and termination

15.1 You may cancel under clause 4.

15.2 We may terminate immediately, without refund, if you:

Seriously or repeatedly breach the House & Safety Rules
Put yourself or others at risk of injury
Bypass or disable a safety device
Operate, or interfere with, any machine contrary to clause 6.2
Harass, threaten or assault any person at the lab
Use the lab for an unlawful purpose
Fail to pay 21 days after a due date
Share access credentials or member rates with a non-member
Take or remove property that is not yours, or take consumables without paying
Fail to report damage you caused

15.3 We may suspend your access immediately, pending investigation, where we have a reasonable safety or conduct concern. We will tell you why, hear your side, and decide within 14 days. If we reinstate you, we credit the suspended period.

15.4 We may terminate for any other reason on 30 days’ written notice, refunding fees for the unused period.

15.5 On termination we deactivate your credential. You must settle outstanding charges and remove your property under clause 11.

16. Prohibited items and uses

16.1 You may not use the lab to make, modify or reproduce:

Weapons, weapon components, ammunition, or anything designed to cause injury
Any item restricted under the Arms and Explosives Act or the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act
Keys, lock-bypass tools, or security-defeating devices, other than for property you own and can demonstrate you own
Currency, official documents, identity documents, or security features
Counterfeit goods or items infringing another person’s intellectual property
Anything illegal in Singapore

16.2 You may not bring hazardous, flammable or controlled substances into the lab without our written approval.

17. Commercial use and selling your work

17.1 You may use the lab for commercial purposes at your plan’s rates.

17.2 If you sell what you make yourself, through your own channels, no commission is payable to us.

17.3 If you ask us to sell on your behalf — in the lab, at events, through our website or social channels, or to our customers — that is a consignment arrangement under a separate Consignment Addendum, under which we retain a commission. No consignment sale proceeds until that Addendum is signed.

17.4 If you use the lab commercially you are responsible for your own business registration, tax, product safety, consumer obligations and insurance. We are not a party to and take no responsibility for your customer relationships.

17.5 You must not represent yourself as employed by, an agent of, or endorsed by Makerschool.

17.6 You must not run classes, workshops or paid instruction at the lab without our written agreement.

17.7 Where your fabrication volume is materially commercial in scale — sustained production runs, or a share of the queue that crowds out other members — we may require you to move to a commercial arrangement on separate terms, or to accept scheduling outside peak periods. We will discuss it with you before requiring any change.

Data, community and general terms

18. Personal data

18.1 We collect and use your personal data as described in our Privacy Notice, in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2012.

18.2 In summary: to run your membership and take payment; to control and record access; to operate CCTV under clause 9; to contact you about the lab; to keep safety, induction and incident records; and, where you have consented, to send you marketing and use images in our content.

18.3 Optional consents are separate from this Agreement. Marketing by email, marketing by SMS or WhatsApp, use of images in which you are identifiable, use of images of your work, and inclusion in our community channel are each asked separately at your induction. Every one is optional, none is a condition of membership, and you may withdraw any of them at any time by writing to our Data Protection Officer.

18.4 Our Data Protection Officer can be reached at [email protected].

18.5 You may ask to see or correct your data, and may withdraw any consent, by writing to our DPO. Withdrawing consent to marketing or photography does not affect your membership. You cannot use the lab without being recorded by CCTV — if you are not willing to be recorded, we cannot provide the membership.

19. Community schemes

19.1 We operate community schemes under separate published terms.

19.2 These schemes are discretionary and do not form part of this Agreement. We may vary or withdraw them at any time. Participation does not create employment, partnership, agency, or any entitlement to a share of our revenue or business.

19.3 Any payment or credit you receive under these schemes is yours to declare for tax purposes.

20. General

20.1 Changes. Clause 1.3 applies. Continuing to use the lab after a Schedule change takes effect means you accept it.

20.2 Notices. Written notice means email to the address in your Membership Application, or to [email protected]. Tell us if your details change.

20.3 Force majeure. Neither party is liable for failure to perform caused by events beyond reasonable control, including government direction, utility failure, fire, flood or public health measures. If the lab is closed for more than 14 consecutive days for such a reason, we will credit the unused period to your account, or refund it if you would rather.

20.4 Assignment. You may not assign or transfer this Agreement. We may assign it to a successor of our business on notice to you.

20.5 Third parties. A person who is not a party has no right under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act to enforce any term.

20.6 Severability. If any provision is held unenforceable, the rest remains in force.

20.7 Entire agreement. This Agreement and its Schedules are the whole agreement between us about your membership, and replace any earlier discussion. This does not limit liability for fraudulent misrepresentation.

20.8 Governing law. Singapore law, with the courts of Singapore having exclusive jurisdiction.

20.9 Disputes. We will try in good faith to resolve any dispute directly. If we cannot, we will consider mediation at the Singapore Mediation Centre before starting proceedings. Nothing here prevents either of us seeking urgent relief.

Acceptance

By ticking the acceptance boxes in the Membership Application you confirm that you are 18 or over, that your information is accurate, and that you have read and agree to this Agreement, the Fee Schedule and the House & Safety Rules.

You confirm in particular that you understand:

Machines are operated by Makerschool staff only, and you may not operate any machine
The lab is recorded by CCTV 24 hours a day
The lab is often unstaffed, and recording is not live monitoring
